Known as ‘métairies’ in French, farm restaurants are characteristic inns in the Jura mountain range, offering simple, tasty cuisine. Hikers, cyclists and food lovers all come here to share invigorating dishes such as röstis or fondue at large, convivial tables. The dishes are prepared using fresh regional produce.
Open from spring to autumn, the farm restaurants and their terraces are an inseparable part of the Jura countryside during the summer months. However, some farm restaurants are also open in winter, making them excellent destinations for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing or walking.
The tenant farmers, as the farm managers are known, often play several roles: restaurateur, cook, farmer and sometimes even cheese-maker. They live to the rhythm of the seasons. Like their cuisine, they are warm and authentic. They know the region inside out and are happy to share their advice. Don't hesitate to ask them directly to discover the treasures and riches of the surrounding area.
