An informative trail on the history and nature of Île Saint-Pierre, enhanced with digital content via QR codes.

Île Saint-Pierre and its Chemin des Païens are a nature reserve and a protected area for waterfowl and migratory birds of national importance. As well as its diverse natural environment, the region also boasts a rich cultural history. The 6km-long and accessible to people with reduced mobility ‘island trail’ features 11 interactive stations presenting the fauna, flora and cultural history of Île Saint-Pierre and the surrounding area. This themed trail, which is accessible all year round, is available in German and French and is aimed at a wide audience, from the age of 6 upwards.

    • The project was carried out by the Société simple du chemin de l'île Saint-Pierre, which comprises the Burgergemeinde Bern, the Office for Agriculture and Nature of the Canton of Bern (Nature Promotion Division), Tourisme Bienne Seeland, the municipalities of Douanne-Daucher and Cerlier and Bielersee Tourismus TLT. Funding was provided by the New Regional Policy and a number of generous sponsors.
    • The ‘island trail’ can be explored in any order, with each station dealing with a separate, independent theme.
    • Starting points, with welcome signs, are located at the beginning of the Chemin des Païens in Cerlier, as well as near the north and south landing stages on Île Saint-Pierre.
    • At each station, a QR code provides access to audio content on the island's nature and culture.
