A dry stone wall, fir trees, cattle... The Montbautier is the typical image of the Bernese Jura.

The Montbautier reaches its highest point at 1184 meters above sea level at the Haut de Bémont farm. In the past, the Montbautier was settled by Mennonites who had been driven out of Emmental. They had received permission from the Prince-Bishop of Basel to settle at an altitude of over 1000 meters in the Jura. Thus, a German-speaking Mennonite school still existed in Montbautier until the 1980s. Vast wooded pastures await the visitor who ventures into the unspoiled nature of Montbautier.
