Marriage Stone (Pierre du mariage)

Young women must touch the stone or sit on it. As it is not easy to climb onto the nearly 4-metre-high rock, a small footboard is there to help! Although this is no longer current practice, the Marriage Stone remains a charming and discreet meeting place.

The rock has intrigued people for centuries. Celtic and Roman coins have been found there, bearing witness to the age of the stone. It is thought that worship took place here where offerings were made.

By sitting on the rock, women hoped to become fertile. In fact, the stone does appear to have been polished by generations of bottoms!
