A FASCINATING CULTURAL AND HISTORICAL JOURNEY THROUGH EUROPE, FROM THE MIDDLE AGES TO TODAY
Conserved by the British Library in London, the Moutier-Grandval Bible is one of the most beautiful manuscripts in the world and steeped in cultural and spiritual tradition.
Since at least the 19th century, its intriguing history and sumptuous illuminations have captivated scholars. Transcribed by 20 or so copyist monks in the 9th century, this medieval masterpiece has travelled through centuries and across borders on a journey that has often been perilous, sometimes secret, but always extraordinary.
The book's arrival presents the perfect opportunity to admire other key works – including Carolingian manuscripts lent by several Swiss institutions.
A unique moment accompanied by a host of companion events, including an international symposium organised by Mémoires d’Ici on 10 May 2025.
