Built around its abbey – Switzerland’s largest Romanesque church dating from the 11th century – Payerne welcomes numerous pilgrims and history buffs.

The abbey church of Payerne, which was founded in the 11th century by Cluniac monks, is a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture and building technology of the period. The abbey church, the 14th century parish church facing it, and the adjacent buildings together form a noteworthy unity.

Aside from its buildings, this little town in Canton Vaud offers very many recreational and cultural activities, including karting, indoor and outdoor golf, museums and an adventure rope park.
