The old town Murten is situated on a hill at the Murtenlake.

Murten is located in the heart of the Three Lakes Region between Bern and Lausanne and is the capital of the Fribourg Lake District.
The medieval town is situated in the Swiss Mittelland, on the edge of the Grosse Moos, on a slight hill (453 m above sea level) on the shores of the lake named after it. Numerous sights from the important past such as the castle, the ring wall, the street scene and the arcades have been well preserved.
