Ligerz: the dreamy wine village

There is no village on the left shore of the lake that enjoys such a quiet and idyllic location in the superb landscape as Ligerz.

Public jetties, known as “Ländten”, with benches, shady trees and sunny stretches of sand tempt you to linger or even swim in the lake. The Seebistrot restaurant is open in the warm months, with tables right by the water. The restaurants invite you to enjoy culinary experiences once the weather turns colder. There are often opportunities to sample a speciality such as Treberwurst sausage while tasting the local wines in the wine cellars.

The Vinifuni enables you to enjoy in all comfort the unique and attractive view from above, across the rooftops of the unspoilt village, the lake and St. Peter’s Island as well as the Alps. The funicular connects the village of Ligerz with the Tessenberg plateau and allows guests to board and alight at the intermediate stations to visit the vineyards too. You can easily reach Lake Biel’s landmark Ligerz Church, for instance, which is well worth seeing.

Thanks to the Vinifuni, Ligerz and the Tessenberg are ideal starting points for hikes through the area, which was the very first to be included in the federal inventory of protected landscapes. A trip to Ligerz by train, boat, on foot or by bike is an absolute pleasure at any time of the year.
